Good Things Utah.. Covered Composition Book Circle Journals

Circle Journals are a favorite in our family! There is something about waiting to get this special treat from someone in your family. It is also a great way to "give" throughout the year to each other. Some of my most precious "gifts" are the sweet notes and recollections from my kids' entries!

I am attaching the instructions and a picture. I am "in between" computers right now so I will give detailed pictures at a later time. When available, I can post the video from Good Things Utah, it will give the best explanation for you anyway!

FABRIC JOURNAL
Items needed:
Composition Book
Fabric
Imaginisce Medium i-top brads
Ribbon

1. Cut 2 pieces of fabric to be the height of your composition book (they all measure differently) plus .75” and the width would be the width of your composition book all the way around plus 10”.

2.       Sew the 2 pieces of fabric together right sides together leaving a small hole in the side.
3.       Turn the fabric right side out.
4.       Fold the edges of the fabric in on each side and top stitch around the edges of the fabric. When you get to the part you left the hole, tuck it in so it looks like the rest of the fabric.
5.       Put the cover over your book.
6.       Use the Imaginisce i-top to make a custom fabric brad. Wrap the ribbon around the journal and secure on the front and back cover with the brad.
7.       Glue your journaling ideas in the inside cover (optional)… these can be found on my blog.

FABRIC JOURNAL WITH STRIPS

Items needed:

Composition Book
Jelly roll of fabric
Imaginisce Medium i-top brads
Elastic or hair elastic

1.       Sew together the strips of fabric.
2.       Cut the strips to be the size for your composition book. You will want to cut them to be the height of your notebook plus an additional .75” and the width would be the length all the way around the book plus an additional .75”.
3.       Cut 2 pieces of your solid colored fabric to be 5” wide and the height of your composition book plus .75” and one other piece of your solid colored fabric to be the height of your composition book plus .75” and the width would be the same length of your strips fabric plus an additional 9.5”.
4.       Sew the 5” panel of fabric to the side of your strips fabric with a ¼” seam.
5.       For the back side of the book, sew the 5” panel to the side of the strips fabric. Put your elastic in the middle and sew back and forth over it 5 or so times to keep it sturdy.
6.       Now, sew the long piece of fabric to the other piece right sides together, leaving a small hole on the side so you can turn the fabric right side out.
7.       Turn fabric right side out and iron it.
8.       Top stitch the entire top with a 1/8” seam, sewing the sides of the cover in to create a flap. As you do this, you will tuck in the small spot that you had left open.
9.       Use the Imaginisce i-top medium brads to make a custom fabric brad. Place it on your cover and use the elastic to close your journal!
10.   Glue your journaling ideas in the inside cover (optional)… these can be found on my blog.

And, if you are like me and NOT a seamstress… you can do a duct tape journal!

Simply cover your journal with Duct Tape. There are so many different kinds at the store and your kids will love helping you with this.

Here is a print out that you can print on your own and attach inside the journal:

Here it is in it's original size. For a PC, click on the image so it appears in it's own window and then right click and save it to your computer to print. For a Mac, click on the image and when it appears in it's own window, drag the image to your desktop!

How to use the Circle Journal:

You will start this journal by writing an entry. Then, you will leave it for another family member (we like to stick it on their bed). They write on it and leave it for the next person.

Coming up Today on Good Things Utah...Cute & Clever Neighbor Gifts

Did you procrastinate to long to get gifts out to your neighbors? These simple ideas are quick and clever. Best of all, I made the tags for you so you can just print them right off of my blog! To save a copy of the tag for yourself... PC users click on the original sized (gigantic) tag. It will pull up in a separate window. Now right click and do a "save as" and save the tag to your computer. For Mac users, you can click on the tag so it opens in a separate window and then drag it to your desktop!

Pizza... Head to the store and grab a premade pizza. Deliver it with this fun poem I wrote and you have an awesome gift! Here is the poem:

“Twas the month of December and all through the State

Our families were busy with much on their plates.

There was shopping and wrapping and cards to be sent.

It seems you work hard but can’t make a dent.

We think you’re the greatest, your friendship means much,

We love you as a neighbor, we love you a whole bunch.

Through all of the hustle and bustle we know you are busy

We hope this will help to make your dinner tonight easy!

Batteries... Everyone needs batteries! I can't even count how many times I have had to run to 7-11 on Christmas Eve to buy some! Buy a package from costco in bulk then tie this poem to your gift...

'Twas the night before Christmas and Santa was worried, he had an emergency, boy was he flurried. The power was off, and his flashlight was dead. He didn't buy batteries when Mrs. claus said. We don't want you in a similar plight, so we give you "batteries" to lighten your night!

Wrapping paper and bows... Hope your season is wrapped in happiness! If you think ahead, you could buy your paper on the Christmas clearance sales the year before!

Christmas caroling... This is a great poem to give with a simple candy cane or even a tea light candle for each caroler to carry. What a great tradition to do as a neighborhood instead of spending the money on small gifts. You could make cards for people to take that says "I donated on your behalf to _________" to put in their cards.

Instead of giving neighborhood gifts,

Together a family's heart we will lift,

Use that money to fill your shopping cart

With toys and food, a gift from the heart.

One family will start the caroling tradition

Singing while on a neighborhood mission.

We'll arrive on your doorstep singing a song,

Grab your family and join in, you'll come right along.

But before stepping out and starting to sing

Don't forget your charitable donation to bring.

To the next door we'll carol and add to out crowd

We'll add and we'll add 'til we're incredibly loud.

Finally we'll stop for a neighborhood treat

At the ____________ home we will mingle and greet.

Although our fingers and toes may be freezin'

We will capture the true spirit of this special season.

Add caption

Reindeer food.... You can put granola, oatmeal or any treat in a bag. Add some glitter so it will shimmer in the moonlight... Kids can sprinkle it on their lawn on Christmas Eve. Use a cute mason jar and add your favorite paper to the lid. Glue some fun matching trim to the lid with a glue gun. The tag reads:

Sprinkle this reindeer food outside tonight,

The moonlight will make it sparkle bright.

As the reindeer fly and roam,

This will guide them to your home.

Soap... I spray painted a regular hand soap black and then applied a rhinestone swirl and some ribbon. What a fun way to fancy up a dollar store gift!

For this soap, I printed on a transparency (you could print whatever you would like) and then put it in the soap bottle. Make sure to put the transparency towards the front of the bottle so the pump doesn’t block your view! You could also add some fun glitter to the soap if you would like. I think it is fun to use this fun homemade button brad to add a personal touch to your project.

Directions:

Adhere vinyl to the cup, bowl and plate.

Measure the width of the circle and find another circle object of the same size, compass or cricut circle cutter to cut a circle.

Back your favorite picture with your favorite papers.

Spray adhesive the front of the circle layout with spray adhesive and mount on the bottom of the plate.

Adhere vinyl to the cup, bowl and plate.

-12x12 Double Sided Cardstock (I used My Minds Eye 12 Days of Christmas “Tinsel” 12D118, “All the Trimmings”12D111, “Joy” 12D114, “Merry & Bright” 12D115, “Peppermint Patty” 12D116)... all available on our website
-Black Ink Pad
-Black String (available on our website)
-Rhinestone Stars (available on our website)
-Sheet Magnets

Instructions:
Cut 12 papers to be 3.25” x 3.25” (I used “Tinsel”, “All the Trimmings”, “Joy”, “Merry & Bright”)
Cut 12 papers to be 2.75” x 2.75” (I used the red “Peppermint Patty” for these)
I LIGHTLY inked the edges of the papers with Black ink.
Assemble each square as it is shown in the pictures. Here are just a few hints:
I used a black pen to trace around each shape just to add dimension.

#1 and #2 used one chipboard shape. I used a heavy duty paper trimmer to cut the shape in half. You could easily trace where you want to cut it on the back and use scissors.

#3 and #7 used a little black string as the “hook” on the ornament.
#4 and #12 used a cute rhinestone star for the tree.
#5 and #8 also has a split chipboard shape (same as #1 and #2) and I also put a rhinestone star on each tree.
#10 and #11 also have the split chipboard

You will want to round the edges of #1, #3, #10 and #12 if your muffin tin is rounded like mine. I did one corner and then used it as a stencil for each of the other corners. This helped to make it symmetrical.
I had to use some letters to recreate some of the 1’s on the calendar. It was easy, I just cut them!
Attach magnets to the back of every edge of the squares so it will stick to the muffin tin.

If you want to reuse the muffin tin, you can attach the “Merry & Bright” label with a magnet. If you want it permanent, you can use a hot glue gun to attach it.

3) Put a candy in each square

1 sheet (or more if you wish) of decorative paper. I used Bazzill Worth Remembering Paper.

Mod Podge or Spray Adhesive

2 Silver Rings

Directions:
Mod Podge Paper to the Stand and assemble the stand.
Download the templates (right click and save the image or if you have a Mac, just drag the picture to your desktop) and add rhinestone swirl if desired. Punch 2 holes and hang onto silver rings
*If you would like to add your picture to this digitally, you will just open my picture in a photoshop elements or other photo editing software, add the picture to the left side and then save it as a jpeg to print on your own! You could also just print these as is, and adhere your own picture to the front.
“String” your beads and hang them from your stand as desired!

Another fun thing to do with this stand is to decorate it for recipes and put it on the counter in your kitchen!

Skull Stand

Items needed:
Circle Plaque available at any craft store
Black Spray Paint
Wine Glass
Tissue Paper
Mod Podge
E600 Glue
Pom Pom Trim
1 sheet of Scrapbook Paper (I used Mischievous “Darkest Dot” Paper, My Minds Eye MIS109)
Sandpaper
black glitter
spray adhesive
rubber bat

Directions:
Spray paint the edges of the Plaque black
Cut a circle (I just cut one free hand and sloppy) slightly larger than the base. Mod Podge the circle to the top of the plaque and then use your sand paper to sand around the edges. This will sand through the paper so it is the same size as the circle!
Adhere the pom pom ribbon around the bottom edge of the plaque.

Mod Podge tissue paper onto the wine glass for a textured feel. I ripped pieces to adhere it and did not worry about being sloppy figuring it added more texture!

Use spray adhesive and glitter on the bat.
Attach the plaque to the top of the upside down wine glass with E6000 and attach bat as desired.

Think of all the fun possibilities! You could make a cake stand for any occasion with this same process. You could also put a little tea light (battery operated, NOT a candle) in the base of the stand to make it glow, it will show through the tissue paper!

Apothecary Jar
Items needed:
Apothecary Jar. You can get them at Walmart, the Craft store, All a Dollar, use a food jar and spray paint the lid!
Wine Glass
Tissue Paper
Mod Podge
E6000 Glue
1 sheet of Scrapbook Paper (I used Mischievous “Pumpkin Stripe” Paper, My Minds Eye MIS111)
Sandpaper
black glitter
spray adhesive
Plastic Spider
Glue Dots
Mischievous Chipboard Accessories Sheet, My Minds Eye MIS102

Directions:
Make the wine glass with tissue paper per the above instructions.

Use Spray adhesive and glitter your plastic spider (what a cheap fun way to dress up a decoration)! Attach spider to the lid as shown.
Cut a 2.5” strip of paper and wrap around the jar.

Cut (2) 1.5” strips of paper and accordion fold them. Staple the ends together into a circle and use a glue dot to hold them together onto a circle you cut from scratch paper. Or, you could punch holes on the inside and use a thin floss to “sew” it together in a circle.

Add a cute chipboard embellishment on the front and glue to the jar.
Glue your jar to the wine glass

Potions and Spells Book
Items needed:
Old Book
Black Spray Paint
Adhesive
Book Plate... I used Zach’s Book Plates, Teresa Collins
Glitter Spider (from above instructions)
Potions & Spells Title (available to download on our blog)
distressing ink

Directions:

Attach the book plate onto the front of the old book.
Spray paint the whole thing black!
Tear the title so it looks old and distress with brown ink. Attach with spider to the spine.
Here is the Potions and Spells title I used. Just drag it to your desktop if you have a Mac. If you are on a PC, click on the image so it comes up in a separate window. Right click on the image and save it to your computer!

Pumpkin Carving Fun...without the knife!

Project #1: Pickle Jar Candle Holder (or candy jar)
Items Needed:
Pumpkin Carvings Cricut Cartridge (available on our website)
Glitter Spider
Black Cardstock
1 piece of ribbon or tulle
Mod Podge
Orange Tissue Paper

Find a fun sized jar at the grocery store. Mine was for pickles, you wouldn’t believe how many pickles I have in my fridge right now!

Take off the label.

Mod Podge the tissue paper to the pumpkin. I liked to mod podge it on “sloppy”, I think it added more texture to the jar. Put a coat of mod podge over the tissue paper as well.

Cut the spider web design from the cricut cartridge (or hand cut a design on your own) from black cardstock and adhere to the jar with mod podge.

Add ribbon or tulle as desired and attach spider with a glue dot!

Project #2: Wood Pumpkins
Items Needed:
Pumpkin Carvings Cricut Cartridge (available on our website)
Black Cardstock
1 piece of ribbon or tulle
Mod Podge
Orange Acrylic Paint (I used Tangelo Orange)
Brown Acrylic Paint (I used Burnt Umber)
Walnut Stain
Sand Paper
1 8x8 or 8x10 block of wood with spindle (available on our website)

Paint the pumpkins Orange.

Sand Lightly to remove the “hairs” from the wood. You could also sand the edges to add more of a distressed look.

Rub on Walnut Stain
Let Dry

Cut out the face you would like to use and use it as a stencil on your pumpkin.

Mod podge over the top of it all and add a ribbon as your “leaves”.

**I also like to use these blocks for pictures as well, they are fun to have!

Project #3: Fun Treat Bags
This is just another fun idea to use with your cartridge. You can add ribbon to a fun inexpensive bag with a cut shape from your cartridge and you will have the fanciest classroom gifts for halloween!

Thursday: Cut a 7x5 square from the top right corner of the “Forever” Classified Paper. Cut another 4x6 square from the “Forever” Classified Paper left overs. Ink with black ink. Trim next to the glitter damask and tuck paper underneath. Cut the “Thursday” and “Dinner plans” title from the transparency and adhere with a glue stick or clear adhesive.

Friday: Cut a 5x7 square from the top right corner of the “Sunshine” Adore Paper. Cut the “Friday” and “Dinner plans” title from the transparency and adhere with a glue stick or clear adhesive.

Saturday: Cut a 7x5 square from the bottom left corner of the “Memories” Sweet Paper. You will want to cut higher than the very bottom of the paper as shown. Cut the “Saturday” and “Dinner plans” title from the transparency and adhere with a glue stick or clear adhesive.

Shopping: Cut a 5x7 square from the top left corner of the “Lovely” Sewing Paper. Cut the “Shopping” title from the transparency and adhere with a glue stick or clear adhesive.

This classy birthday hanger will look great on your wall to remind you of your next big celebration! You will make the birthday “mini album” using luggage tag holders. After the birthday has passed, you will simply flip the chart to the next page! This awesome decoration will make sure you NEVER forget your next important birthday again!

ITEMS NEEDED:
6x6 Designer Paper Pad (I used the My Minds Eye Breeze Pad LF2102 but check out our website for lots of other styles)
“Breeze” Fun Day Pearl Swirl LF2043
“Sunshine” Lovely Title LF2081
Luggage Tag Holders
1 silver 1” ring
1 metal hook (purchased at Rod Works)
Brown Ink Pad
Cream Ribbon
Antique White Paint
Sand Paper
Mod Podge & E9000 glue
Wood Frame with Bead Board insert (LIMITED availability on our website)

INSTRUCTIONS:
For the Frame:

1. Paint the Frame and the middle of the bead board sections with the antique white paint.
2. When the paint has dried, sand the frame lightly. This will remove the wood “hairs” and make your project feel smooth. Then, apply a second coat of paint. Using Sand paper, “antique” the edges of the frame. Mod Podge the top of the wood frame.

3. Cut (2) 1 1/8”x6” strips. Ink the edges of the strips with brown ink and mod podge onto the beadboard. I cut 2 strips because I had to overlap the paper and make it long enough. Modpodge the top of the paper. I attached the cream ribbon across the seam of the 2 papers as shown so you don’t have a seam showing between the 2 papers.

4. Glue the metal hook to the bead board using e9000 or any other strong glue.
5. Mod Podge to the top of the frame as shown. You can mod podge right over the glitter!
6. Cut the Pearl swirl and place on both sides of the title as shown. Here is a picture of how I cut the swirl:

For the Birthdays:
1. Cut as many papers as you will need for the birthdays from the 6x6 pad. They need to be cut to be 2 5/8” x 4”.
2. The pictures were printed to be 2”x2” and the photo matte behind the pictures are 2 ¼” x 2 ¼”.
3. Type the birthdays in your favorite word processer and then cut to adhere to the page. The font size I used was 18 and it was Baskerville.
4. Ink the edges of all papers with brown ink.

Instructions:

1. Spray your magnet board with the chalkboard paint. I use canned chalkboard paint, it eliminates “brush” stroke marks.

I Cut the paper into 3” wide strips of paper.

Lay them out all around your frame so you can figure out the spacing and pattern!

4. Rip the edge of the paper and ink in black to “distress” the look. (Did you know if you rip one way you will get a white edge, if you rip the other direction, your edge will be the same color as the paper!?)

5. Mod Podge the top of the paper with Outdoor mod podge

6. Using the ribbon, tie the handle to the top of the magnet board. Make sure to loosen it just a little so you can still get your magnet board back in the frame and laying flat!

7. Embellish as desired. .. I tied the fun crown blingage and put a pin in my knot. On the other side, I tied the chalk into the other knot

8. For the magnets, I just took the backs off some cute brads and attached a magnet to the back!

Today on Good Things Utah!!! Road Trip Magnet Board

Today I was featured on Good Things Utah... Check out the project I made :)

Supplies I used:
1 Dry Erase Magnet Board (The one I used was at Michaels and it is a 11.5x11.5 inch square)

Checkerboard:
Supplies I used:
2 We R Highway Junction Die Cut Paper
1 We R Direct Flight Paper
1 We R Travel Log Paper
1 piece of blue cardstock
16 small magnets
Brown ink for the edges (optional)
Circle punch

Directions:
Because the magnet board is smaller than the die cut paper, I cut the Highway Junction paper and then repositioned it to be smaller. By the time you layer all the papers on top you won't even see the seams! Just cut it anywhere on the side and top and then overlap it to be the size of your magnet board!

Then, I cut the Direct Flight Paper into a 8.5x8.5 inch square.

Last, I cut the middle out of the 2nd piece of Highway Junction paper in a 8x8 inch square.

Cut your navy blue cardstock into 1" squares. Place those squares onto your 8x8 inch square in a checker board pattern.
Punch the remaining Direct Flight and Travel Log paper with your circle punch and use glue dots to adhere them to your magnets.
When you are playing in your car, you can store the magnets that are not in the game on the top or sides of the magnet board :)

Road Trip Bingo
Supplies used for each Bingo Board:

Directions:
Cut the All Aboard Paper into an 11x11 inch square

Cut (16) 2" squares from the Travel Log Paper.

Cut (16) 1.75" squares from the middle of the Game Board Paper

Adhere the Road trip title, letter stickers, embellished tags and stickers as shown. For additional boards, make sure to mix up the stickers and embellished tags!

Attach magnets to the rhinestones.

Today on Good Things Utah! Glitter Cups

I had found these glitter cups from a company about a year ago and thought they were the cutest thing ever! I think they make GREAT fun gifts and projects. Here are the detailed instructions on how I made them. I am also having a drawing for 2 people to receive a free kit to make one for themselves!

Supplies Needed:

Glitter
Mod Podge
Spray Glitter Glue
Styrofoam Cups (1 large, 1 small that can fit inside). You can get one at sonic, if you want a bulk amount, I got them at Orson Gygi)
Ribbon
Tulle
Embellishments ( I used small mirrors and a Making Memories embellishment paper flower)
Foam Brush
Adhesive (glue gun or glue dots)

Directions:

1) Put all of your glitter on a long pan or bowl. Put a piece of paper on the bottom first so it is easy to lift out the leftovers and put them back in the jar! Note: from experience, i would advise you NOT attempt this outside if there is any sort of a breeze! Not that I'm this foolish but it could cause a HUGE mess! ;)

2) Brush one semi thick coat of mod podge onto your cup.

3) Roll your cup in the glitter

4) Spray with spray adhesive

5) Roll in the glitter again. This should be enough but repeat this process until you have the desired coverage.

6) Allow to dry for a few hours

7) Thickly apply mod podge to the cup. Remember to use a super thick coat. This helps make your cup more durable. It also helps so you don't have glitter all over whenever you use the cup!

8) Allow to dry over night.

9) Embellish as desired. I tied ribbon and tulle around the cup and then tied misc. Ribbon and more tulle in the knot. I put the paper flower on the top and then used glue dots to put the ribbons on the sides the way I wanted them to look. I also added the cute little mirrors of different sizes in random places for fun!

Today on Good Things Utah...Easter Plates

Easter Place Setting Plates:
These simple plates make a great place setting for your Easter dinner!
Supplies:
Chinet 10” Plastic Plates

2 double sided cardstock papers
Misc. embellishments as desired (I used flocked letter stickers, ribbon and rhinestones)
Brown ink (if desired)
Kiwi Lime Design template (optional)
*You can get a kit with all the items used on our website www.aPage4allSeasons.com
Directions:
1) Find an object that is the same size as the bottom of the plate or use a cricut or other circle cutting tool to cut a 7” circle.
2) Cut a 3” strip of paper. You can either use a Kiwi Lime Design template or use your own freehand design down center of the strip. I did mine a bit to the side so one edge would be larger than the other.

3) Use the opposite sides of the paper and layer them on your paper.

4) Cut a 3” wide by 4” tall photo matte for your picture.
5) Print a picture just a little smaller to place on your matte.
6) Use Letter stickers, die cut cardstock, stamps, or handwriting to write the name on your plate.
7) Embellish as desired.
8) Spray adhesive the FRONT of your “circle layout” and adhere to the bottom of the plate.
**NOTE** Spray adhesive WILL eat through the finish on your table so do this outside and LEAVE somewhere until it is completely dry. This adhesive can leak through paper and still get on your table until dry… It also helps that you spray the adhesive, let it sit about 10 seconds and then put it on the plate. Otherwise, the adhesive isn't as tacky! Here is a close up of a finished plate...

You can also put another clear plate over the top of your finished plate so it doesn't get dirty and you can reuse it!

It was sooo fun to see so many of you in person at the Scrapbook USA expo here in Sandy. The primary reason I do this expo is to see you face to face and it was fun that I was able to! I just wanted to check in to let you know I need to take a QUICK break... I will be back on Monday (my plan) to start weekly give aways again. I not only need to get everything put away, I also need to sort out my latest little trial... our car was broken into and many items/money was stolen after the expo. Do you have schoolwork for your kids or photos from your last accomplishment and you just don't know where to put it? These darling letters are the perfect wall hanging to display those treasured memories!

Supplies:

Brown Lush paper and accessories kit (available on our website)
Amazing wood letters (available on our website)
Teresa Collins Blingage Miranda's Jewels BL1913(available on our website)
Nails (to hang the letters on the wall)
Command picture hanging velcro (found at Office Depot)
Large Magnetic Bulldog clips (found these at Office Depot for $1.99/2 pack)
Mod Podge (optional)

Directions:

1. Using the various papers in the kit, trace each wood letter onto the BACK side of the paper you would like to put on the letter. Make sure when you are tracing on the back side, the side with the nail hole is facing you, or you will end up with the wrong side. I didn't do anything but put one sheet of paper on most of the letters because the Lush line coordinates so easily! For the i and !, I used a piece of the flocked paper for the . Don't you LOVE the Lush line with all the flocked papers? Soooo cute.

2. Cut out the letters from the paper and Mod Podge the paper to the wood letters. I didn't mod podge over the top of the flocked papers, only the regular cardstock. I liked the feel and didn't want it to go away! :)
3. After the mod podge has dried, I used a nail file to file the edges of the cardstock so that it was flush with the wood. I did it outside to save my house from a dust disaster!
4. For the rhinestone brads, I cut the fasteners off the backs and used glue dots to adhere them to the letters.

5. I attached the Teresa Collins Blingage to the letters as shown (bottom of the i and hanging from the ribbon on the m)

6. For the bulldog clips, I used the magnetic clips because they had a circle on the back for the magnet. To attach them to the wall, I just put velcro picture hangers on the back, worked easy as pie!

7. I put ribbon through the holes of the clips and used a brad to keep them in place.

Hang your favorite accomplishments and enjoy!

Check out what I am going to be featuring on Good Things Utah today! These fun cans were made from soup cans. They are fun to make because you use the little ring on the top to peel back the lids. This year, I am using them to make a fun Valentine suprise for my kids. This year, I wanted to be more sentimental. I felt that these gifts will last a lifetime. My husband and I sat down and handwrote memories and thoughts for each of the kids. We cut them into strips and bunched them up inside the cans. When the kids open the cans, the papers should (hopefully) pop out. I am going to put these on the table for dinner tonight so we can talk about fun memories at dinner time!

I started with these cans.

I used the Pampered Chef Can Opener to take the lid off the top of the can. I know other brands use this can opener that takes the entire lid off. I think they are called a smooth edge can opener.

Here is what the lid looks like when it is off.

Take off the labels and wash the cans.

Decorate the cans with all your favorite scrapbook products. For the soup can, just measure the length of the can and cut a paper strip. I just used scotch tape to get it stick to the can, it is the best way to keep it from peeling off! You can decorate the paper with ric rac or other trims if desired.

For the lid, cut a circle. I used my Cricut cutting machine but you can trace a circle as well. I used a 1/2" hole punch for the edge of the circle so that you can slip it around the tab on the can lid. I added a tag and ribbon to the tab for extra decoration.

Don't forget to write little memories or put something fun and sentimental in here for your Valentine today!

4. Adhere bracket paper to layout on an angle about 1” from top and 3/4” in from right side of page.
5. Sew bracket edges.
6. Add lined and green dot papers - round edges.
7. Trim transparent frame and layer around photo mat.
8. Trim zipper to 7”, crochet trim to 11 1/2” and yellow- green crochet to 14”. Add as shown.
9. Layer journal card, photo, stickers, brads, chipboard elements as shown.
10. Doodle in brown pen on titles.
11. Adhere together and add to layout using pop dots.
12. Add journaling on lined paper.ENJOY!

2. Cut 2 pieces each of: 6” x 12” “So Sweet” Herringbone Paper (B side), 3” x 12” “Joy” Crocheted Paper (B side), 1 1/4” x 12” “Play” Silly Striped Paper. Adhere to both pages, overlapping the edges just a bit. Cut 3” off of “So Sweet” Plaid Die Cut Paper (B side), and tuck it under the edge of the orange Herringbone Paper (cut in half where the pages meet). Sew its edges before adhering to the page.
3. Cut a 2 1/2” x 12” piece of “Joy” Wood grain Paper and a 6” x 12” of the B side. Adhere to the right side of the right page.
4. Adhere the Cream and Orange Lush ribbon along the top of the pages, wrapping the edges to the back and securing with tape. Adhere the brown rick rack along the papers on the right page.
5. Add photos, stickers, chipboard, and titles to the page. Adhere a piece of the lines “Joy” Crocheted Paper (B side) to the back of the orange frame for journaling. Insert brads.

Today on Good Things Utah...Classroom Valentine Ideas!

Today I got to demonstrate these fun classroom valentine ideas!

This cute page topper can be cut with the template at the end of this post. You will just cut it out, cut the heart, use your favorite letter stickers (I used foam thickers from American Crafts) and put this over a 4x6 baggie.

This cute pixie stix valentine is a fun way to dress up a simple treat. You will cut all the pieces from the included template on this blog. For the slits on the heart, I used a paper trimmer to cut two slits. You can use scissors or an exacto knife. I stuck it through the heart, put the pixie stix through and then mounted the heart on the background paper!

These robots are made with small candy bar miniatures. Cover the candy bar with orange paper. Cut a 1/4" strip and fold it "accordian style". Use it as your arms and legs. Cut the rest from the template sheet, adhere the googly eyes and draw on your mouth! CUTE!

You can use candy bar miniatures and cover them as shown here. I stuck them in a cute little clear box that I got from Xpedx but you can put them in a baggie, tin, whatever you'd like!

1.5 X 8 wood (for 3 blocks), 1.5 x 10.5 wood (for 4 blocks)
Black paint
Approx. 1 yard of Ribbon
Mod podge
2 sponge brushes
2 flowers
1 Rhinestone or other embellishment

Directions:

1. Paint all the wood.
2. Lightly sand the wood in order to get it to feel more smooth. If you like the color to be more solid, you can do another coat of paint. I just do the one coat and the mod podge helps (later) makes it look “new” again.
3. Cut your pictures to be 2.5 x 2.5. Mod Podge to the top of the blocks.
4. Sand the edges of your paper. If you like a more “clean” look, you can use an exacto knife.
5. Do a coat of mod podge on the entire block.
6. Cut your paper for the base and mod podge onto the front of the block. Add any embellishments you would like (I used flowers and a black gem)
7. Tie all the blocks together with your favorite ribbon!

You can use pictures of your children, grand children, pets or… you can do pictures of you doing your favorite hobbies! The ideas are limitless!

I know, this is not a scrapbook page but I have to brag every once in awhile! Both of my girls are in cheer and we just had them get their pictures taken in all my money. Oops! Did I say that? I meant in their uniforms! All kidding aside, I am proud of them. Cheer takes a lot of their time and quite a bit of dedication.

Of course, they are totally adorable all on their own. But, if you are anywhere near Draper, UT. You should check out my friends newest studio. For now, she has her house decked out as a studio which is where I got these taken. But, she also does outdoor sittings. And, I can't even believe this. She gave me the CD so I can use them as I wish! Oh, AND she edits them. She goes through and takes out all the weird hair and makes you look perfect! She is only $65 per sitting. Look what we added to the site today!I love this little 4x4 mini album with coasters.
*NOTE* The letters are a little different for the "year" word. You will get a FULL pack of American Crafts Yellow thickers but they are not fabric, they are yellow chipboard. The thickers shown are discontinued!

This is a great way to celebrate your last year with bright colors and embellishments!
